Latest Developments in Parallel Crystal
Parallel Crystal version 2.4 contains many new features, as well as modifications, updates, and improvements.
For more information about this release, read the Release Notes. (This document is also available on the Parallel Crystal installation CD.)
Parallel Crystal 2.4 has been improved to:
- Enable greater interoperability by removing all usage of the Inprise Visigenic _bind() function from the Java client library. Parallel Crystal now supports JBroker (SilverStream v3), IBM Component Broker(WebSphere v3), and other leading Web Application Servers and their underlying Object Request Brokers (ORBs).
- Optionally acquire report data from remote Microsoft ADO objects in addition to acquiring it from databases. (Acquisition of data from Java objects was added in November 1999 to Parallel Crystal, v2.3.) For data acquisition from both ADO and Java objects, reports may now include the extended ASCII character set.
- Reduce PDF report document file size (and speed up download time) by provide the option of representing Seagate Crystal Reports charts in compact line art, rather than in larger graphics files using the JPEG or RLE formats.
- Add APIs to dynamically change printers.
- Improve log file messages for failure to connect to report server and many PDF-related errors.
