Issue There are many possible ways that Dynalivery customers can monitor the status of the report server with HP Openview or similar tools. Here are two, of the many, possible options: 1. To the extent that you wanted to write something very simple yourself, you could configure a Java program on a middle tier Web/Portal Server (WPS) to periodically run one of our samples such as box.rpt. In case it failed, you could then invoke a Java Mail API (back on the middle tier server) to contact a person you designate as "on call". 2. Alternately, you could buy a toolkit for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and write a program to send a message to a formal systems management tool like Tivoli. It could read and respond to a message that you define in the Parallel Crystal server log file as indicating "error" or even just periodically test a server as we suggested above by running box.rpt. Please keep in mind the Parallel Crystal architectural objective, empowering customers to integrate Crystal Reporting with the Web/Portal Server technologies and products of their choice. Because of the great variety of options for WPS, it does not make sense for Dynalivery to pick one systems management tool, implement it natively, and impose a mismatch on at least of some of our customers.
