How does Parallel Crystal rely on the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)?

Download PDF version of this faq: MDAC.pdf

The Parallel Crystal Report Server relies upon MDAC for reading XML in order to supply data to DOR Reports. It uses MDAC for requests coming from either Java or COM client (middle-tier) libraries.

PCRE 2.6 is compatible with MDAC 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7. Our install utility currently installs MDAC 2.5.

For DOR users, PCRE 2.6 has a related prerequisite to MDAC. Before running the PCRE Install utility, Dynalivery customers should install the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, version 4.0 or higher on the report server. In other words, if only an earlier IE browser version is present, or if the IE browser files have been deleted, DOR reports will not work.

A default installation of Microsoft Windows NT 4, without service packs, installs IE 2.0. Therefore Parallel Crystal users need to apply the appropriate IE upgrades before beginning the Parallel Crystal installation.

The Parallel Crystal Report COM client library relies upon MDAC for writing XML in order to supply data to DOR Reports.

Microsoft offers a utility program to determine the version of MDAC installed on a computer. It is downloadable from Microsoft's web site. It can be downloaded from this link:
