PCRE v2.4 to PCRE v 2.5 Upgrade Procedure For COM Customers

These instructions apply to customers using Parallel Crystal with ASP/IIS, Visual Basic and other COM tools

Server

  1. Uninstall Parallel Crystal v2.4
  2. Make the following registry edits
    From HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ delete the Mobile Application Servers Inc registry key.
  3. Prerequisite Software for a Parallel Crystal v2.5 Server Installation
    A. Install Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) v1.2 or the full JDK 1.2.2
    B. Install MDAC v2.6 from PCRE CD.
    1. Run the PCRE install shield. It will detect the presence of MDAC and if it is not where PCRE expects it to be, it will give you the option to install it or exit from the installation. Install the MDAC and reboot.
    C. Install or update Internet Explorer to version 5.0 or above.

  4. Install PCRE v2.5 from the CD. (see installation guide)

Client (middle tier)

  1. Uninstall Parallel Crystal v2.4
  2. Make the following registry edits
    From HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ delete the Mobile Application Servers Inc registry key.
  3. Prerequisite Software for a Parallel Crystal v2.5 Client Installation
    A. Install Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) v1.2 or the full JDK 1.2.2
    B. Install Microsoft’s Java Virtual Machine (build 3802 or higher)
  4. Install PCRE v2.5 client libraries only from the CD. (see installation guide)
  5. Change in jar Files
    Confirm that Pcrejavaclient.jar is in the CLASSPATH.
    C:\Program Files\Dynalivery\PCRE\jars\ Pcrejavaclient.jar

    Confirm Pcrejavaclient_sunstubs.jar to the CLASSPATH
    C:\Program Files\Dynalivery\PCRE\jars\ Pcrejavaclient_sunstubs.jar
To the extent that existing code uses our old COM library (ActiveX), Dynalivery would like to start the process by offering to assist our COM customers in updating their code for use with the new COM library in Parallel Crystal version 2.5. (We will be deprecating the old COM library.) This may be accomplished by sending us the code and our staff can make the necessary changes. We do recognize that there may be security concerns in providing the code.

However, the exact code that is being used does not need to be sent. A list of the methods in the ActiveX Automation Server that are currently in use would be a fair starting point. A good starting point would be the code with enough edits to hide any confidential business data but not too many to obscure how our product is being used.

Please read the PCRE v2.5 developer's manual. Specifically referencing Chapters 5 and 6, which include detailed documentation on the COM library.
